Artist's Statement

Since 2007, I have realized that delving into my personal experiences—whether good, bad, or imperfect—has been essential to understanding my artistic approach and myself. My work focuses on the nobility of struggle rather than the pain of drama. I create art to transcend grief and free myself from the constraints of acceptability.

My personal history is intrinsically tied to my art. My works radiate resilience, optimism, and spirituality, without seeking to perpetuate memories. While I cannot transform the world, I can transform myself by creating beauty. My work will never be complete. Without artistic expression, I would remain bound and shackled, a prisoner of the past.

My practice is characterized by bursts of vibrant colors, reminiscent of fireworks—bouquets of light that transform on glass or canvas into a celebration of sparks and shimmering forms. My paintings are driven by a relentless quest to capture brilliance in motion.

This is an incandescent process. For years, I have dedicated myself to searching, experimenting, and developing a pictorial style that reflects my life, expresses my thoughts, transcends my memories, and dresses my dreams. It is a trajectory that deliberately avoids straight lines, inspired by the mountains I now cherish over the prairies where I lived for sixteen years.

The use of unconventional media, such as glass and mirrors, influences my approach. At this stage of my work, these materials captivate me because they allow the viewer to see the first layers of paint on the back of the glass and the final strokes on the front. This offers a glimpse into the creative journey, from the initial touch of color to the last brushstroke, inviting the audience to witness my act of creation.

My practice embraces slowness, a symbolic challenge to the cult of speed. I seek a slow beauty that evokes lasting emotions. In rare moments, while painting, I feel a deep sense of harmony with the world around me.

I have always been enchanted by the mystique of stained glass, especially in churches, where I often sit long enough to witness the sun ignite their colors in perfect harmony. I aspire to recreate this kaleidoscopic magic in a modern and contemporary way through my pieces.

Through my art, I feel connected to all that is alive. This connection is the very essence of my artistic journey.
